Annouces a one day symposium on
Applications of Topology
by

Dimca (Université
de Nice Sophia Antipolis)
Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Bokhari Auditorium , GCU, Lahore.
Program:
Session I: Topology and Economics (10:00 AM - 12:30 PM)
In this session the work of John Nash, for which he received the 1994 Nobel prize for economics, will be explained. The topological result used in his work was the Brouwer fixed point theorem.
Session II: Knots and DNA (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM)
Knots form a classical subject in algebraic topology. In the first talk main notions and results on knots will be introduced. In the next lecture the use of abstract theory by biologists to study the basic self-replicating elements of living cells, DNA molecules, will be discussed.
Those who wish to attend the Symposium should contact Director NCM on or before Tuesday April 12, 2005.
